about us: who we are
Tom Graber, general manager
Tom is a corporate drop-out. He left an executive position to live where he wanted to live and to pursue a passion for fine homebuilding. He founded Twin Peaks Craftsmen - the sister company of Twin Peaks Windows & Doors - in 2005. Through that company, he built his first custom home for his family.
When he left corporate life, Tom wasn’t yet aware that he also had a burning desire to sell windows and doors. But his first full-time experience as a builder introduced him to the need for some creative solutions.
Tom’s own home was thoughtfully and beautifully designed by architects at Arcadea in Boulder. To be true to the home’s craftsman style and take advantage of the rural Boulder County views, the plans specified some crazy windows. They called for double-hung wood windows with authentic-looking divided light. They called for a massive half-round window that takes up most of one wall, as well as several others that were larger than or nearly as large as door openings.
These windows were not easy to find. But as he sought them, Tom became fascinated with the science of high-quality windows: how they go together and how they contribute to a home’s comfort and energy efficiency. He found manufacturers and options he never even knew existed.
So before he knew it, he was immersed in the world of windows and doors. He began supplying windows and doors for his own projects and those of other builders and homeowners who had found their existing choices limited. He currently provides Habitat for Humanity of the St. Vrain Valley with windows for all of their new homes.
Before starting his own business, Tom worked for 13 years for the Coleman Company, famous for camping gear. He held varying positions in operations, manufacturing and design engineering, marketing, and senior-level management. Most recently, he was Vice President of Marketing and New Product Development for Powermate, Coleman’s outdoor power equipment company.
Tom grew up on a farm in rural South Dakota, where he developed a strong work ethic and an appreciation for quality. He earned a bachelor’s in industrial technology at Bethel College in Newton, Kan. He also completed coursework in Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management at Wichita State University. He spent his undergraduate summers as an apprentice for a small custom homebuilder in his hometown.
Tom does as much of the work for Twin Peaks Windows & Doors as he can himself. He relies on a handful of other contractors he knows and trusts when he needs help.
